I was in Pittsburgh this weekend, one of my favorite drive-to vacations, when I came across this truck. It had a boobie on it. Right there, on the roof, a big round boobie. And a nipple!

“Why, I havent’ seen this before,” I thought.

It looked like an ice cream truck, an old-fashioned delivery vehicle used by milk men and other antiquated professionals. Maybe they were being cute with the lactation thing, or maybe it was a coffee truck that had a variety of milk options, for the lacto-curious out there.

But no, this was different.

The Milk Truck is potentially the world’s first advocacy truck. Their services are many, but primarily serve as the voice for lactating mothers out there who have been harassed (or merely asked to leave) by business owners. The truck also serves as a feeding station for nearby mothers to use while out in public.

It’s a novel idea, putting advocacy on the street, where it belongs, and doing so with a fair amount of gravitas (I mean, a BOOBIE?!).

As soon as our group approached the pink, red and blue-striped confection of a thing, a lady approached and told us, without prompt, what The Milk Truck is all about.

Naturally, I brought up Donn Esmonde’s recent column in The Buffalo News, and she just shook her head.

This audio clip is what project manager Tara McElfresh (coolest name of 2012) had to say about their attention-grabbing idea.
